Term 4 P.E

Hey guys welcome back to my blog, today I am sharing about P.E. So far we have been: Sprinting, Jumping and throwing. We have been practicing for Athletics that is coming up soon. In one group we have also practiced for the relay with the batten.

For jumping we played a game called 'This is the way Jenny jumps' or 'This the way Jimmy jumps'. That game is fun, what you have to do is do any type of a jump and the people around you in a circle copies. When you are done demonstrating you nominate another person and the do the same, you go and join the circle.

In the throwing activity we threw as far and hard as you could. When it landed you would move the cone of your team and if it wasn't further than other throw then you don't move the cone. For most of the session for this I was actually doing a job so I don't know what we did in the beginning.

Extension Maths

Ki Ora, welcome back to the blog. Today I am going to share about what we have been doing in extension maths. Miss Hill is the teacher and extension maths is tricky but sometimes fun. WALT: solve problems with what we know.
We had a sheet that had lots of questions on it. I worked most of these questions out with Victoria and Liske. Also Bella helped us when we were stuck. (Click on their names)
Here are some examples of the questions.

Hope you enjoyed this post, leave a comment if you did.

Giraffe Art

Over the first weeks of the term we have been doing art. We had to choose a category of art ; the choices were: Painting, Sketching, and Digital Art. I choose to do painting. First we had to draw the giraffe and add the little touches to make everything the right shape.

Mrs Love next gave as little painting sessions to show us how to paint some parts and how to blend colours. Sometimes we had to wait for the paint to dry before we carry on, but sometimes we had to paint over wet paint so it can blend.

The most challenging thing was getting the right shape of everything, also painting in the little gaps. I think my favourite part was painting the patches that are the special feature of a giraffe.
Here is a photo of my finished art up on the wall.

Essay

Hey guys welcome back to the blog. Also welcome to term 4, it is my last term at primary. Anyway I today I am going to share my writing. I have chosen to do the comparing and contrast essay writing. There was three options: Essay, retell or narrative. My writing teacher was Mrs Love. So I chose to compare lions and tigers. Here is my writing:

Essay Success Criteria
  • Uses scientific vocabulary
  • Revised and edited
  • Accurate paragraphs with subheadings
  • Essay structure followed
  • No personal pronouns
  • Factual
  • Detailed ideas
  • Sentences- different lengths and beginnings

Comparing Lions and Tigers - Essay

Out in the wild it would appear that lions and tigers are similar, in fact they are quite different. While they do share some similarities, they each have unique qualities that make them different.

Similarities

These animals are part of the Felidae family ; they can be found out in the wild. The pair of animals are both immense cats (big). Their subfamily is the Pantherinae family which is within the Felidae family. Both animals live in the wild, which makes them wild.

Species of the felidae family including lions and tigers are found all around the world apart from Australia and Antarctica. They are built for hunting ; their hunting cycle is: stalk, chase, pounce and kill with their sharp teeth. Lion’s and tiger’s both can roar but they can’t purr.

Both are apex predators also known as a alpha predator or a apical predator. That is a predator rising at the top of the food chain upon which no other creature prey. The two of them eat other animals which makes them a carnivore. A carnivore is someone or something that eats meat.

Differences

Lion
A lion’s main and distinctive feature is a mane. Only male lions have manes. Normally the lion’s mane is black and tan. The main colour of their body is tan. Prides are what the lions hunt and live in, it is like a group. Their scientific name is Panthera leo.

The male lions can grow up to 1.7-2.5m long. As the females only grow up to 1.4-1.8m long. Males average mass is about 190kg, and the females weigh around 130kg. Lions have been on earth for at least 800,000-1 million years.

This specie of the felidae family is part of the African origin. These cats once roamed three different continents ; Africa, Europe and Asia. However, they are only found in two different areas now, India and Southern Africa.

Tiger
Tigers are very unique and special cats. The most distinctive feature on this creature is the black stripes all over the body. Although this specie of the felidae family are actually endangered, they have been on earth for 1.2 million years! Their brain is 25% larger than a lion's brain. The scientific name for this animal is the Panthera tigris.

These hunters still hunt but they are solitary hunters. That means they spend a majority of their lives without others of their specie, for raising their young independently. Being solitary hunters is a survival advantage because the tiger needs to find enough food for itself and cubs. When they hunt they hide in the bushes, then gradually sneaks forward. Tigers have to be silent or their prey will escape.

Male tigers average a length of between 2.5-4m long. Also their average weight is 90-210kg! For females it is a bit different. Females are around 2-2.8m long. The average weight for a female tiger is around 65-170kg. This is a quite a big difference.

Conclusion
Lion and Tigers are both part of the Felidae family, and can be found out in the wild in Asia/African region but they have many differences especially in their weight, and length.

Project Based Learning (PBL)

Hey guys welcome back to the blog. Today I am sharing my PBL. My project was to do with history. I did a slide about history. It had lots of information but I couldn't finish the whole project. I loved PBL time because we got to research about the Olympics and it was really fun. I was in Mrs Carr's PBL group. It was also tricky but fun!

OLYMPIC PBL REFLECTION
Project Topic: History

Photo/Screenshot of Project (insert below) 2 screenshots of my slide.

History of the Olympics Google Slides.png

Finish these starters:
  • Something I enjoyed about my project was  researching  because it was fun learning new things.

  • The most challenging thing about my project was finding the right site to find the information because lots of them had different things.

  • The main skill I got better at was getting faster at finding the information I got better at it by working hard on it and getting absorbed into the task.

  • Something interesting I learnt was that the ancient Olympics ended because someone took over.

  • What I would most like to change about my project is that I could make a model of something because lots did a model and it looked awesome!

  • I would like to do my next PBL about is probably about fencing because I don’t know anything about it and it might be fun to learn about.

Choose three learning muscles and explain how you used them during your PBL.

  1. Managing Distractions- I used this muscle by making sure that I don’t get distracted by others around me making noises.
  2. Imitation- By going around to see how people were going and how they were going to present it so it gave me ideas.
  3. Perseverance- Because I struggled and I just kept trying harder to do as much as I can. Even though I didn’t finish I tried hard.

Create a Description of Your Project
This needs to have either video or audio. You can use any app you like. Include a link here. You will embed it as part of your Reflection PBL Blog Post.

So there is my PBL Reflection. Now here is my real PBL.

Calendar Art

Kia Ora and welcome back to the blog. Today I am sharing my calendar art. I put a lot of effort into it. We had to pick out of three options. I picked Mrs Love's art (which was Mrs Hinde at time because Mrs Love is sick) and it was a animal print as the background and black silhouette on top of the prints. It was challenging picking the animal because I wanted to do something that not everyone else is doing. In the end I ended up picking a Dog.

Wow! Introducing the one and only art by Ruby. Just take a moment to look at this spectacular piece of art. If you want a closer look come down to Parkvale School on Thursday 15th of September. As you can see lots of effort went into this art and it is amazing. If you are a dog lover this is the right art for you. I am sure if you don't like dogs you will still love it. The paws are blended because the bottom of the paw is darkly coloured in and the top is lightly coloured in. There is no art like it! It is a really cheap deal and everyone will love this art. You can show it off  on your wall by buying a calendar or any of the other options. The prices are down below.

Prices:
Calendars $10
Diary's $15
Cards $12
Notepads $12

Buy one of your child's art. All things on offer to buy is very useful.

Hopefully you have thought about buying this art.
Thanks for taking you time to check this post out,
Your blogger Ruby.

Colour poem

Hey guys welcome back to the blog. Today I am sharing my colour poem. A colour poem is a piece of writing that describes one colour but six totally different subjects. For my colour poem I have done the colour blue. I had fun writing it and it was also a bit tricky. My favourite line is 'A intense blue eye staring carefully at the rugby match'. I hope you like my post and poem.

Colour Poem

WALT to use descriptive language to help create an image (picture) in our reader's head

Success Criteria
  • Use adjectives to describe the noun
  • Use adverbs to describe the verb (describe how the action is happening)
  • Use a range of verbs to explain what is happening
  • Use a range of nouns that help us identify with a colour

Blue is the colour of…
  • Juicy blueberries squirting on my face
  • The Cookie Monster quickly sneaking into the cookie jar and gobbling them all up
  • An intense blue eye just staring carefully at the rugby match
  • Kids playing in the fresh swimming pool splashing purposely to their friends
  • Sadness from Inside Out touching the memory balls and turning them into sad memories accidentally
  • Dory swimming around the ocean free and happy while finding her way home

Olympics

Hey guys welcome back to the blog.
Today I am sharing about the Olympics and a project that I am doing. My main focus is History and I am in Mrs Carr's group. At the moment we have done some writing and we have taken some notes. I am going to be doing a slide about my subject. I am looking forward to doing it and it take a while to complete it but I am positive I will finish. I have also have done notes so I will share that . Also the hardest thing about my notes was making sure that the 3 sentences that I made out of my list of key words made sense.
I am also sharing my plan for my slide.

Notes

I had to read about history on the BBC site and took notes of the key words. After that I changed my keywords into 3 sentences. Here is a photo of my notes.

The Big Surprise

Kia ora and welcome back to the blog. Today I am sharing my learning blogpost it is a quick write. 2 days a week we do a thing called quick write just after morning tea. I would like to share this story because I have 4 friends in my story.
The big surprise
Once upon a time there lived two pretty princess's. Their names are Princess Victoria and Princess Liske. Also their friends Ruby and Maia are really rich.

One day Ruby and Maia went to the princess's castle and had a very awesome present for them. They put all their money together to buy Victoria a beautiful Pony named Flash. They also got Liske a candy machine that pops out the candy Liske is feeling like when ever she wants it.

You would think that Maia and Ruby would have run out of money but no. Those presents was not that expensive to them. The buying doesn't stop there. Ruby bought herself a massive chocolate factory all for herself. Maia bought herself a famous gymnastics arena that she now owns.

Surely they have run out of money now. But NO! Ruby did a surprise for Maia she hired to get the most famous gymnast in the world it was...
BELLA PERSEN!!!

As Maia walked in she screamed to see Bella. Bella Persen is a 3 time world champion with 7 gold medals, 12 silver and 5 bronze.

Everyone loves their gift and they all lived happily ever after.

THE END

My Holiday

Hey guys I hope you enjoyed your holidays because I sure did. I am going to tell you all about my holiday. First of all welcome back to my blog for term 3!

Day 1 (Monday)
I spent the day with my big sister and little sister. Firstly we went to the supermarket to buy some lollies and a pie. Then we drove up Te Mata Peak and munched up there. When we were heading home we stopped off at a cafe and had a hot drink. As we got home my mum arrived home from work and my sister put on Zootopia for us to watch.

Day 2 (Tuesday)
On Tuesday my older sister took us over to my Aunty Stacey's house. We stayed at her house all morning and made toasties for lunch. We watched The Gruffalo, Fireman Sam and Happy Feet 2. My cousin Evie is three so that is why we watched those movies/programs. After my older sister left I started playing with my baby cousin Bonnie. Bonnie loves looking at herself in the mirror so most of the time I stood in front of the mirror holding her. Then when my mum came we went for a walk to Anderson Park and mum and I went to New World to get some stuff for tea. We had Chicken, Bacon and Avocado burgers at my Auntie Stacey's and Uncle Ando's house.

Day 3 (Wednesday)
On Wednesday me and my little sister Gemma went over to my Aunty Sarah's house. We did something called Whipple and my cousin Paige (who is four) went to her friends house for a playdate. After we had lunch me and my cousin Tom played on the playstaion. We also stayed the night at thier house.

Day 4 (Thursday)
We woke up and Tom and I watched the State of Origin game. It was too late to watch when it was live so we taped it. Also we spent a wee while at Onekawa Pools. After we came home from Onekawa Pools we played on the playstation again and then mum came to pick us up.

Day 5 (Friday)
On Friday not much happened. My highlight of this day was when dad came home.

Day 6 (Monday)
On the second Monday mum, Esther, Gemma and I got ready and put up all the decorations for my little sisters birthday party. We spent all morning shopping for the food for the party. It was really exciting for my little sister.

Day 7 (Tuesday)
The day finally came it was ...
GEMMA'S BIRTHDAY AND BIRTHDAY PARTY!
Gemma had so many little kids at her party and she got heaps of presents. I was a helper and I did all the music. I got Gemma some new earrings and Dream chocolate. Mum and Dad got her a Tablet.

Day 8 (Wednesday)
So on Wednesday we went to Focal Point Cinema to watch The B.F.G. My favourite part was when everyone in the castle (including the Queen) had a drink of frobscottle(a fizzy drink that's bubbles go down) which makes them do a whizpopper(fart). We had lots of treats and it was very fun.

Day 9 (Thursday)
Mum, Esther, Gemma and I drove over to Napier for a day out. We scooted along Marine Parade and scooted to Mister D's. My favourite part of Mister D's was injecting the donuts and putting in the flavors. After that we scooted to my Nana's work.

Day 10 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday)
On Friday we drove down to Wellington and had a few stops on the way. On Friday night we stayed at the hotel instead of going to the Conference. Mum and Dad went to bed while I watched the Highlanders game.
The next day (Saturday) we went to Te Papa. Also on Saturday the elevator at the hotel broke down so we could only use one of the elevators. Then on Sunday when we were going down the elevator to go home people kept pushing the button and mum, dad, Gemma and I kept going up and down the elevator. The funny thing about that is the floor we hoped on the elevator from we were just a few steps from where we had to be.

I hoped you enjoyed this blogpost and your holidays. Please leave a comment.

Passion Project

Hey guys welcome back to the blog. Today I am sharing about Passion Projects. I am sewing a bag. My passion project teacher is Mrs Carr. There are a few of us sewing there is Me (Ruby), Victoria, Caitlin, Keighan and Sage. I have not finished yet but I am nearly finished. Passion Projects is when you get to do anything that is your passion and do some fun activities or recording yourself. The teachers had to approve on the topic you want to do. I made a slide of handy tips that I have learnt from my mistakes. Also today I am sharing the slide that I made and my Passion Project reflection.

Reflection
Passion Projects Reflection

Please answer all of the following questions

Describe your passion project. What was your learning in it? What were you trying to produce?
My passion project was sewing a backpack. To describe it I would say sewing it was tricky. Also it was scary when you would be sewing the real fabric and people were just staring at you. My learning in this project was definitely learning to thread a sewing machine. The next thing I learnt was how to actually sew. The biggest thing I learnt was what everything I called in and on a sewing machine. I was trying to produce a backpack. The project was tricky and when I finish sewing it I think it will look great.

How far did you get with your passion project? What would have helped you to get further?
I got quite far with my passion project. I was basically up to sewing everything together. Another stage I was up to for my passion project was finding out what a drawstring is and I found out what it is and I know where it goes. To help me get further would of been more time in the afternoon and everyone gets a go on the sewing machine everyday. Something else that would've helped would be that everyone had their own machine.

What was the most challenging part of your passion project?
The most challenging part of my passion project was sewing it. I think the next hardest part had to be cutting out the fabric on the black lines. Another hard thing was ironing the interfacing on the tufts and tails. The absolute hardest thing was sharing the sewing machine and avoiding moaning from people. The people moaning wasn’t using their pacientes and the people moaning would always hog  MY sewing machine.

What was surprising about your passion project?
The bobbin in the sewing machine is very important and that you can not sew without one. Another thing that was surprising is that sewing is very tricking and if you make a mistake you have to unpin and unpinning takes ages.

Did you follow your plan well? Why or why not?
A little bit. The reason to that is I had to change my idea from making a t-shirt to a backpack. But I still did sewing. I followed my plan because I am doing a slide about some handy tips on sewing. I half and half with following with my plan.

Which learning muscles did you use the most while you were working on your passion project? How did you use each one?
  1. Perseverance = I showed my perseverance muscle when I just thought that I couldn’t do some stuff but I kept trying. Also when I was pinning and I pinned myself and I just kept going and didn’t worry about the minor injury.
  2. Questioning = I asked lots of questions to do with a sewing machine and what parts mean from my bag. I also asked how to do lots of things and now thanks to myself asking questions and the sewing girls asking questions I know heaps of things about sewing.
  3. Interdependence = I showed this muscle when one of the girls from the sewers needed help and we both learnt from what each other knew.

Which learning muscles did you find difficult to stretch during passion project time?
I think the hardest muscle to stretch during passion project time was Perseverance because it was very hard to keep going when you think I is not going to work. Another reason why that was hard to stretch was that if I pin myself I feel like giving up because it hurt but I ended up using this muscle well.

Include a picture/embedded link to your passion project
I am just up to sewing it together.
IMG_1838.JPG

If you were allowed to pick a new passion project, what would you choose and why?
I think I would pick acting. I would pick that because it is one of my favourite things. Also I would pick that because it is very fun to do and I be able to write a script for it and I love writing.

What was your favourite part of passion projects?
My favourite part was sewing. That was my favourite because you know that you have not wasted time and that you are trying hard to finish and you are up to putting it all together and that means you are nearly finished. Another favourite part was hearing what other people’s passion was and it was really cool knowing just a little bit more about others.
